COVID 2023 Protocols

September 15, 2023

Dear Families and Staff,

On Friday, September 15, 2023, the State Department of Education and the Connecticut Department of Public Health held an informational meeting on health and safety for the 2023/2024 school year.

As you are aware, all Executive Orders pertaining to COVID-19, expired in the Spring of 2023. The State Department of Education and Department of Public Health will not be supplying schools with COVID-19 test kits as there is no requirement for children or staff to test for COVID-19 (unless they elect to).

The following health and safety protocols are in place for staff and students at The Gilbert School:

•       Practice good respiratory hygiene - cover mouth/nose, use a tissue and throw it away, use hand sanitizer or wash your hands;

•        If you have upper respiratory symptoms you must be fever-free, for 24 hours without medicine to return to school or work;

•          Stay home if you are ill.

•         If you are positive for COVID-19, isolate for 5 days, and suggest wearing a mask for an additional 5 days.

The Center for Disease Control recommends the following:

•         Flu and COVID-19 vaccine;

•        Stay home when sick;

•         If you are sick with COVID-19 symptoms and are immune compromised, they recommend you get a COVID-19 test;

•          If you are positive for COVID-19, isolate for 5 days, and suggest wearing a mask for an additional 5 days.

It is our goal to have a healthy school community so that our students can benefit from our expert teachers. If we all work together to support a healthy and safe community, our students will ultimately benefit.

If at any point, you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at shugrueg@gilbertschool.org
