We did it again! The Gilbert School received a Silver Medal from U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best High Schools in the country! This is the third time we have received this honor.

According to U.S. News, "Top-ranked schools succeed in three main areas: exceeding expectations on state proficiency tests, offering challenging coursework and graduating their students."

It was the last and final home game of the season for the Gilbert/Northwestern Yellowjackets football team on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Van Why Field and the Yellowjackets did not disappoint the hometown crowd.

Heritage and history were celebrated during Gilbert’s Homecoming Weekend on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. On both days, Gilbert alumni attended various events celebrating the accomplishments of graduates.

GN Varsity Football Team Plays On

The Gilbert-Northwestern Regional combined varsity football team were dealt a tough blow on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a loss against Rockville.

The Gilbert School’s varsity boys soccer team season kicked off on Friday, Sept. 13 with a game against Thomaston at Walker Field.

Gilbert seniors at their first fundraiser of the year

This year’s senior class at The Gilbert School, the class of 2020, will be holding fundraisers throughout the year. The class is responsible for fundraising for their prom and all senior outings and activities.

The Gilbert School and Northwestern Regional High School’s combined varsity football team, The Yellowjackets, held a scrimmage against Torrington High School’s Red Raiders on Friday, Sept. 6.

The first day of The Gilbert School’s 2019-2020 school year was on Aug. 30. Both teachers and students were more than ready for the school year to start at a kick-off ceremony at the school’s auditorium.

English teacher Katherine Wood

Katherine Wood has been named as a semi-finalist for the state’s Teacher of the Year honor. She joins a field of 16 other semi-finalists from all over the state. Wood graduated from Gilbert in 2004 and is going into her seventh year of teaching at the school.

After one week of intense rehearsals, students of The Gilbert School’s band camp performed for an audience of more than 50 people at Van Why Field on Friday, Aug. 23.

While school officially starts for all grades on Aug. 30, starting on Aug. 19, 50 students showed up early to take part in Gilbert’s summer band camp. According to music teacher Scott Minnerly, during the week of Aug. 19 students practiced often for 12 hour days to get ready for the Gilbert Marching Band’s season.
