Message from the Principal

Principal, Susan Sojka

To Parents/Guardians and Students of The Gilbert School:

At The Gilbert School we believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work we do on a daily basis. As Principal, it is important to me that our administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students become partners in promoting success for all students. Motivating and empowering our students to reach their highest potential is paramount in all that we do. We must provide all students with a rigorous and student-centered education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century.

As we prepare for another year, we continue our work to support and celebrate all that makes The Gilbert School unique.  A school were all who enter feel welcomed, supported, respected and valued. A place where we trust, communicate, collaborate and grow.  A place where every day can be different, challenging, rewarding and fun for students, faculty and staff. A middle school program, high school, International program, and a special education collaborative with Winchester.

We are proud to receive the honor of a Silver Medal from U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best High Schools in the country! According to U.S. News, "Top-ranked schools succeed in three main areas: exceeding expectations on state proficiency tests, offering challenging coursework and graduating their students. This is the second time we have received this honor,

Our mission is to always put students first, and it is our job to support all of their needs on every step of the journey. As educators, we need to discover how each child learns, support diverse learning styles, and help maximize learning in all areas. We want children to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. Our goal is to provide a safe, caring, positive, fun learning environment where all students in grades 7-12 can thrive and grow.  WE take every opportunity to model kindness, challenge students academically and foster an environment where students are Respectful, Responsible, and safe, and prepared for success in college, future employment and global citizenship.

I am proud to be a part of The Gilbert School Community where we value “Heritage-Innovation-Opportunity”. I look forward to working under the guidance and direction of Dr. Anthony Serio, Head of School/Superintendent as we partner along with Mrs. Julie McDougall, Director of Student Services and Ms. Debra Lewis,  High Associate Principal and Mrs. Maura Hurley, Middle School Associate Principal in fulfilling Mr. Gilbert’s wish to help our students become “good citizens”.

Mrs. McDougal, Mrs. Sojka, Ms. Lewis and Mrs. Hurley

Sincerely,

Sue Sojka
