Message from the Principal

Principal, Susan Sojka

To Parents/Guardians and Students of The Gilbert School:

I would like to begin this letter to you by offering my sincere congratulations to Mr. Strauss on his appointment as Principal of Weymouth High School in Weymouth, Massachusetts. We wish him success and happiness in his new endeavor.

I am appreciative and thrilled regarding my appointment as Principal of The Gilbert School at The W. L. Gilbert School Corporation meeting held on June 27, 2017 and moreover, on becoming the first female Principal in the 122 years of Gilbert’s proud heritage. We also made history on June 23, 2017 by graduating the first senior class to have attended Gilbert from 7-12. This is an accomplishment I am so very proud of and look forward to graduating many more classes from our 7-12 program. I want to thank Dr. Anthony Serio, Head of School/Superintendent, Mr. Steven Sedlack and The W. L. Gilbert School Corporation, and Mr. Thomas Botticelli and the Gilbert Trustees for their continued support and encouragement.

At The Gilbert School we believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work we do on a daily basis. As Principal, it is important to me that our administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students become partners in promoting success for all students. Motivating and empowering our students to reach their highest potential is paramount in all that we do. We must provide all students with a rigorous and student-centered education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century.

Our mission is to always put students first, and it is our job to support all of their needs on every step of the journey. As educators, we need to discover how each child learns, support diverse learning styles, and help maximize learning in all areas. We want children to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. Our goal is to provide a safe, caring, positive, fun learning environment where all students in grades 7-12 can thrive and grow.

I am proud to be a part of The Gilbert School Community where we value “Heritage-Innovation-Opportunity”. I look forward to working under the guidance and direction of Dr. Anthony Serio, Head of School/Superintendent as we partner along with Mrs. Julie McDougall, Director of Student Services and Ms. Debra Lewis, Director of Curriculum in fulfilling Mr. Gilbert’s wish to help our students become “good citizens”.
