The Gilbert Trust offers three types of housing for Residency students:
Homestays (students are placed with a local family at their home)
Dormitory style homes (houses in close proximity to campus that have up to twelve students and Residential Coordinators who run the household)
Dormitory (located on the school’s campus- houses up to fifty-two male students)
A homestay is a housing option that provides students with the opportunity to live with an American family unit. Homestay families provide a comfortable living environment for the student, daily meals and activities. A student requesting to live in a homestay family should be outgoing, have good grades and have a desire to be a part of an American family unit. This option will provide a wonderful opportunity to practice spoken English.
The Dean of Student Life carefully screens homestay families and Residential Coordinators. They are friendly, caring individuals interested in supporting students in their education and also in sharing their cultural backgrounds. They provide a safe and stable environment in which students study, eat, sleep, and spend time with a traditional American family. Residency students have full access to bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. Many homes are within walking distance of the school. All housing options offer wireless Internet access.
The Gilbert Trust and Gilbert School believes that in addition to having an excellent academic record, education beyond the classroom walls are critical to a student’s overall success. Residency students at The Gilbert School are encouraged to join sports teams, volunteer in the community and enjoy social events with peers. Each month the Student Life Department will send out a “Student Happenings” calendar with various events where students can truly enjoy an American experience and establish friendships for life.
